Jewish Weddings Maui

About me

My name is Gary Shin-Leavitt and I am the elected religious & spiritual leader (sh’liach tzibur) of Gan Eden Chavurah, the Reform Jewish Congregation on the Island of Maui, Hawaii.

As we are a small congregation, we don’t have the resources to support a rabbi, so I was elected by our Board of Directors to serve as best as I can in the role of spiritual leader. Please note that I am not an ordained rabbi– I am a lay leader.

As such, I lead services at Gan Eden Chavurah, which are held on the Second Friday of each month at Kanda Hall, on the grounds of Iao Congregational Church in Wailuku, Hawaii.

I am licensed to perform weddings by the State of Hawaii and by directive of our Board of Directors. I will gladly perform Jewish Weddings, Commitment Ceremonies, Vow Renewals, Interfaith Weddings, and non-denominational Weddings. I am also available to assist with other life-cycle events, including funerals.

My Jewish background is varied and cosmopolitan. I come from a somewhat traditional, Eastern European heritage, combined with a strong egalitarian and progressive direction; I am the essence of inclusiveness and participation. I believe regardless of our history or who we love, we all should share fully in our traditions.

I encourage you to contact me either by phone or email, so we can get to know each other. I think you will find me sensitive to your wishes, fun & lighthearted.
